Mike Slater is a seasoned litigator whose practice focuses on civil defense with an emphasis on construction defect litigation. His practice is built around a genuine passion for representing contractors in a variety of litigation and transactional matters, including defect claims, contract disputes, and scope of work changes.
Mike's commitment to the industry extends beyond the courtroom. He has a keen personal interest in construction and a desire to be an expert on building practices, demonstrated by his numerous publications on topics like sustainable construction, real estate development trends, and evolving legal precedents in Washington construction law. This focus allows him to provide nuanced counsel grounded in a deep appreciation for the trade.
Mike's litigation experience also includes handling a wide range of general casualty claims, such as personal injury, wrongful death, and property damage. Throughout his career he has established a proven track record of handling high-exposure claims, including matters valued at more than $10,000,000.
In addition to his experience as a litigator, Mike worked with the in-house counsel for Weyerhaeuser's real estate division, where he assisted with drafting agreements, handling pre-litigation matters, and conducting due diligence for business acquisitions. He also served as corporate counsel for Expedia, Inc., managing regulatory compliance and contract negotiations for its global travel insurance business. This diverse background provides him with a deep understanding of his clients' business objectives and the ability to develop strategic solutions to complex legal challenges that align with his clients' goals.
Mike earned his J.D., cum laude, from Gonzaga University School of Law in 2014 and his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Washington in 2011.
Outside of the office, Mike enjoys spending time with his two children, Perry and Michael, golfing, fishing, and going to as many Husky football games as possible.
